Kirsty's Juicing Detox
If I think something is worth recommending to a client, I like to have tried it myself first. This way I understand more of what the client will have to go through when they undertake it. This time I’m trying the Jason Vale 5 day Juice Challenge – I was asked my opinion of it and didn’t feel I could honestly give it without having tried it first.
According to the supporting book to the detox, the green juices and the green blend smoothies contain all the amino acids, the very building blocks of protein, that I will require for the five days. And as Jason Vale points out it’s only 5 days – so I’m very unlikely to suffer a deficiency of anything during this short period. I would not recommend doing a juice detox for longer.
Firstly, if you’re going to undertake a detox please consult your doctor.
Secondly, giving up coffee is HARD but not impossible! I drink coffee everyday which I really do know isn’t great, but I love it and don’t think that one a day is going to hurt me too much. But if doing a detox you need to give this up for the duration of the detox at least. I have also been eating more sugar than usual as we had a lot left over from Christmas so I knew this was going to be a struggle.
I decided to start the detox on the Monday as recommended, and do it from Monday to Friday so the previous Saturday I gave up the caffeine, the first day wasn’t so bad to be honest but the second was AWFUL. Headaches and tiredness and nausea – all withdrawal symptoms!
Today I’ve started on my juice fast and the first thing I have noticed (and I realise it’s only lunchtime on the first day) is that I am not missing food! I do still have a headache but it’s manageable but I’m generally feeling okay. I reckon I might be able to do this and I’ll keep you updated…
Have you ever done a detox? I’d be interested to hear in the comments below what type of detox or program and what was your personal experience?
